final
major
project
For my Final Major Project, I independently created and produced a magazine exploring rave culture, youth identity, escapism and community. Inspired by my interest in drum and bass music and subcultures, rave culture became a meaningful focus that connected both my personal interests and creative practice. Having specialised in editorial publications throughout my degree, I chose a magazine format as the final outcome. I independently managed the creative direction, photography, styling, graphic design and web design, allowing me to develop a cohesive visual identity across both print and digital platforms.
The project explores the cultural significance of rave spaces and why they continue to appeal to younger generations today. In an increasingly digital world, where social interaction takes place largely online, my magazine highlights the importance of physical community, collective experience and human connection through music and events. It was inspired by the growing sense of disconnection many young people experience despite constant online connectivity, and the increasing desire for more authentic offline experiences. Choosing to create a physically printed magazine was an important part of the project, encouraging audiences to engage with something tactile and immersive in contrast to the fast-paced nature of digital media.
